Steve Thompson is a second-generation Arizona native, whose professional photo career has spanned the last 40 years, but his passion for photography began even earlier.  "I started helping my Dad in his darkroom developing black-and-white prints at age 4," Steve says, "when the image appeared in the developing tray I thought it was magic."       The magic of photography that captivated Steve at a young age never diminished. In High School he learned how to make photography commercially viable as staff photographer on the newspaper.  "I would shoot the sports teams and then sell them a black-and-white, 8×10 print at five bucks a pop," recalls Steve.       After the college years, Steve headed off to New York to shoot fashion. "I thought, what a dream job. I get to work with all the pretty girls and get paid for it."  For the next 20 years Steve traveled the world and shot for large national retail stores and fashion magazines. "Then I got burned out on the whole fashion scene," Steve says. In 1980 he moved back to Arizona to work with the then largest commercial photo studio, Woburn Studios of London, England. "Thinking back, this was the time in my career that I first got the concept for Natural Light Imaging. We built a giant outdoor cyclorama that rotated backgrounds at the push of a button – allowing you to create any location on set and use the sun to light the models. Because of the Arizona climate, we could shoot swimsuits on the beach in January."       Ten years later, in 1990, Steve had the itch to head-out on his own and founded Thompson Photographic. It began the next chapter in his career, shooting real estate, and applying the principles of Natural Light Imaging to architecture. For the last 20 years Thompson Photographic has enjoyed relationships with all the major real estate developers and realty companies in North Scottsdale. "It's been a privilege working with all my incredible clients – offering the best service I can provide them," says Steve.       Steve's other passions besides photography are guitars, model railroading and exploring the vast state of Arizona in his FJ Cruiser looking for that elusive "perfect" shot!
